Artist Statement

My drawings are an intimate tracking of the mutable, eternal, beatific. I record the echoes of phenomenological occurrences.

I’ve a longstanding fascination with nascent form. Clusters of frequencies on the threshold of materialization, ripen to a fullness we are party to, at the moment our perception allows. Drawing is at the heart of my work. There is less between the hand and that which it meets than any other process. It’s through drawing that we are left a trace of the perceptive process. Each mark is the actual experience with its own inherent narrative.

Gestural indications become constellations evocative of form. At times a budding still shimmering with light. At times, an ode to the infinite unfinished, trace upon trace, rendering fusion.

I layer my mediums, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, ink and gouache, on heavy paper and parchment. Working intuitively, I utilize various combinations of explicitly honed techniques, and engage in both additive and subtractive processes. A piece may take months, or years.
